A NEW home for an angling club along with 100 homes has been approved for Woolwich.

Greenwich Council’s planning board has approved the South London Aquatic Centre plans for part of the Woolwich Dockyard housing estate in Europe Road.

The 16-storey building is set to feature community facilities for Woolwich Dockyard Angling Club along with flats and car parking space.

It will see the club occupy the ground floor and mezzanine level, including a sheltered outside space linking two ponds, as well as a kitchen, shower block and storage areas for fishing equipment.

The rest of the building’s 15 floors will be taken up with homes.

Listed building consent was also granted by councillors because the site features dock structures with Grade II protected steps from the original dock walls. Part of the dock fabric will be removed in construction.
