A controversial housing plan is set to get the green light from Greenwich councillors.

A scheme put forward by Hyde Housing wants to demolish the former Venture Greenwich building in Creek Road and build a block of 26 flats as well as ground-floor shops.

A previous application was pushed back in September last year until more information about affordable housing could be provided.

Residents who attended the September meeting said they were concerned about the height of the building – adding that it could set an unwelcome precedent for future developments.

The developer has proposed a nine-storey tower – and said in its application there would be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats.

Below the flats is a “flexible” space for shops and restaurants.

Council officers said in their latest report: “By providing commercial floor space at ground-floor level this will ensure the creation of an active street frontage and one that complements the established form in the area.”

The long-running saga, dating back to 2016, is set to be resolved at a meeting today, June 20, where it is expected that councillors will give their approval.

The developer has included six affordable housing units in the plan, after negotiations with the council to include more than the initially proposed two.
