Woolwich Polytechnic has had to close the school for pupils in year 7, 8 and 9 after part of its roof was blown off in a storm.

Pupils and staff woke up yesterday morning (January 18) to find there was no school today as Storm Fionn had blown a large chunk off their roof.

With the roof hanging off the top of the building and spread out over the yard, experts had to be brought in to assess the extent of the damage and how long it would take to repair.

For students in years 10, 11, 12 and 13 the school remains open as normal hours apply, but due to the limited availability of rooms, younger students are left with no school at all.

Saturday school on January 20 has also been cancelled as a result.

More updates to follow.
