A noisy neighbour from Abbey Wood who ignored 11 warnings to turn down his music has been fined £4,400 and had all his stereo equipment seized.

The residents of Bostall Lane had resorted to keeping a diary of all the times Eduard-Alexandru Banu had blasted his music from his home, on some occasions playing it until midnight.

The first complaint about Banu’s music was sent to Greenwich Council in April and he was sent an order to stop playing the music.

However he ignored the warning, and indeed ignored all 11 warnings handed to him, both in person and written, over the following months.

In a prosecution brought by the council, Banu was summonsed brought to Bexley Magistrates' Court on October 30, where he failed to turn up, but was still found guilty of six charges relating to excessive noise in breach of a noise abatement notice.

Cllr Jackie Smith, cabinet member for community safety and environment, said: “This sends out a strong message that the council will take action against selfish people who persistently disturb their neighbours by playing loud music or by creating any other noise disturbance.

“This is a substantial fine and serves to warn people not to breach noise abatement notices as a criminal prosecution can lead to unlimited fines on conviction.

“I would like to congratulate the officers and long suffering neighbours for their hard work to gather evidence which ensured such a good result. We encourage any residents experiencing noise nuisance to get in touch with our noise team.”
