Bargain hunters in Greenwich have a new place to shop thanks to opening of Poundstore.

The new Poundstore on Greenwich High Road officially opened yesterday (November 20) with people queueing to get in.

With Greenwich Mayor Peter Brooks conducting the official opening, shoppers looking for cut-throat prices had their first chance to look around the new store.

Before the store was opened to the public, local charity Woolwich Service Users Project took part in a trolley dash challenge where volunteers had 100 seconds to rush around the store to fill their trolleys and win the contents for their charity.

Gerry Loughran, managing director, said: “Greenwich is the twentieth PoundStore to open in just under two months, having recently opened stores in New Milton, Bristol Fishponds, Worcester, and, most recently, Wrexham.”

“At each of these openings, people have started queuing from the early hours of the morning to grab our store opening specials. We have plans to open 25 stores this year nationwide, and next year we are planning 75 more.”

“We believe that the UK customers want fantastic value for money at a £1 or less and we will offer that every day. We look forward to welcoming the people of Greenwich and serving them amazing value for money.”
