More than 4,000 people showed up for a festival and light show last weekend, September 23-24, in Thamesmead.

A spectacular light show lit up Southmere Lake and the four Thamesmead towers on Saturday as the highlight of Thamesmead Festival 2017.

Other highlights include the Thamesmead Fete earlier that day and a fireworks display over Southmere Lake that night.

This eye-catching drone footage, taken by Youtube vlogger Danny Gypsy, captured the fireworks and festival of light.

Debbie Frimpong, Thamesmead resident, said: “The day has been fantastic, absolutely beautiful. My family and I have lived in Thamesmead for 21 years.

“You won’t find another place like it, it is unique and is only going to get better. Watch this space.”

Her daughter, 22-year-old Jerusha Frimpong, said: “There is a great atmosphere and a real community vibe. I really enjoyed growing up in Thamesmead, I love the place – everyone knows each other and looks out for each other.”

Other events throughout the weekend included Thamesmead pet show, carnival dancers, and a bus tour of the town.

Cllr Teresa O’Neill, leader Bexley Council, said: “I’m delighted that we were able to get involved and support this great festival weekend.

“Thamesmead is a key part of our borough going through lots of exciting changes and fantastic partnership events like these help to build a real sense of community.”
