Two former homeless men have had their lives turned around by working at a charity in Plumstead.

William and Nick were living on the streets when they were helped by Emmaus, and now they’re helping other charities assist homeless people.

William said: “When I first arrived at the community in Plumstead, I was so low and down with no work. In a few short weeks I was back on my feet and in a good place again.

“I love helping people less fortunate than myself. I just love what Emmaus does and I’m happy here as a carpenter, teaching and training people.”

The two men will be working with Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild, a charity which distributes clothing and household linen to other charities in the UK, on September 28.

They will be collecting warm clothing such as slippers and jumpers for formerly homeless people residing at the Emmaus community on Earl Rise, Plumstead in preparation for winter.

Tony Bradbury, CEO of Emmaus Greenwich, said: “William and Nick are really looking forward to visiting St James’ Palace to collect this kind donation from the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild.

“As winter approaches, it is vital that all members of society have good, warm clothing and this donation is much appreciated by everyone at Emmaus.”
