Millennium Primary School has been named as one of the best governed schools in the country.

The governing board was named winner in the outstanding governance in a single school category at the National Governance Association’s (NGA) outstanding governance awards 2017.

The category recognises governing bodies that have improved significantly over time and in doing so have made specific impacts on their school and its pupils.

Announcing Millennium Primary School as of one three category winners, judges Duncan Haworth and Siddique Hussain described the governing board as “ensuring expectations are very high so that every child has a rich, well-rounded, exciting experience at school.”

Joanna Gledhill, headteacher of Millennium Primary School, said: “I am delighted to have our team’s hard work recognised. As a school we faced many challenges on our journey to Outstanding and all governors played an important part in this.

“As the Head, the governors’ balance of strategic challenge and support was just right. All governors were exceptionally committed and determined to help achieve our vision for all the children and families we serve.

“As a team, our ability to remain extremely focused whilst enjoying the challenge, always maintaining a healthy sense of humour, was crucial. Thank you to all Millennium governors for your hard work and dedication.”
