A petition to re-zone Woolwich Arsenal station to make travelling to and from there much cheaper has over 1,000 supporters.
The petition, which also has the support of Greenwich Council leader Denise Hyland, asks TfL to move the station from zone 4 to zone 3/4 with the upcoming opening of Crossrail next year.
The petition claims that moving Woolwich Arsenal station to the zone 3/4 boundary will help make Woolwich even more attractive and less expesive for workers commuting west, without penalising those coming into Woolwich from the east.
As the petition points out, Woolwich is the only DLR station in zone 4, and Gallions Reach, just north of the river and further east than Woolwich, is already in zone 3.
A similar petition was launched in 2014, although at the time it requested Woolwich Arsenal station be moved to zone 3.
The petition and Greenwich Council wrote to the then-Mayor Boris Johnson but he did not back their request.
Councillor Denise Hyland, Leader of the Greenwich Council, said: “The Royal Borough of Greenwich has backed calls for Woolwich station to be rezoned to Zone 3/4 since 2014.
"We wrote to the then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, at the time asking for support and were very disappointed by his response.
"We believe the case for rezoning is clear and we will continue to fight to secure cheaper fares between Woolwich and central London on behalf of our residents and businesses.”
