An over 50s hub has reopened in Thamesmead.

More than 100 older people attended the relaunch event in The Atrium on Friday.

Residents enjoyed taster sessions in tai chi and cooking, were treated to piano playing and complementary massages, as well as the opportunity to find out more about different projects and events taking place in Thamesmead.

Erith and Thamesmead MP, Teresa Pearce said: “It has been fantastic to see so many residents, not only from Thamesmead but the surrounding areas turn up for the re-launch of The Atrium. The hub plays an important role in every-day life for so many of those that are here today, helping not only to reduce isolation but creating many friendships.”

79-year-old, Peter Warr said: “I have been coming to the Pop in Parlour for ten years. I’ve made some great friends and hope to join The Atrium’s darts team. The new centre is much bigger than our last one - it will take some getting used to but I really like it.”

The Atrium was opened in the 1980s by former London Tonight TV presenter, Anna Marie Ashe.
