A fun day held by celebrity ex-gangster Dave Courtney to raise money for the survivors and victims of the Grenfell Tower Fire had more guests than expected – including residents from the Grenfell area.

Run in conjunction with Cockney Pride, Dave Courtney opened his doors to more than 100 people to raise money for children affected by the tragic fire that has killed at least 80 people.

Guests were treated to a BBQ, auctions and there was a visit from Peppa Pig and Minnie Mouse for children who attended the open day at Dave's Camelot Castle in Plumstead.

The money raised will go towards a trip organised by Dave and friends to take children affected by the fire to Southend for a day at the beach.

Joe Leslie, founder of Cockney Pride, said: “We had about 175 yesterday, more than we expected.

“It was a great day, Dave enjoyed it. We had representatives from the Grenfell area, we wanted them to enjoy themselves.”

The BBQ went on until about 10.30pm and Joe said people were generous with their donations.

Joe said: “Whether you like Dave or not he has a heart of gold doing this and it was a great day, it went really well.”

The total amount of money raised was £216 and there are plans for more events for the “forgotten children” of Grenfell in the future.
