Celebrity gangster Dave Courtney’s fun day barbecue is going to be attended by survivors of the tragic Grenfell Tower as they look to raise money to take some tower’s children for a jolly in Southend.

Dave Courtney is organising the barbecue in Plumstead this weekend in an effort to support the survivors, with between half a dozen and ten confirming their attendance to the event.

The fun day, which will be held at Dave’s “Camelot Castle”, will be organised with help from Cockney Pride.

Fundraising will also go towards organising a trip to the seaside for some of the children affected by last month’s fire that tragically saw 80 people lose their lives, with hundreds still missing.

Joe Leslie, founder of Cockney Pride, said: “There is going to be between six and ten from the Grenfell Community coming on Sunday.

“What we want to do is to set up a fundraiser to take some of the children down to Southend.

“We will hire a coach, have a packed lunch and get them wristbands for the rides. Some of these kids have never seen the sea.

“They have the council and the police, but these children have been through hell and back.”

Speaking about the barbecue, Dave Courtney said: “I was recently approached by Joe Leslie, founder of website Cockney Pride, to help host a fund-raising family fun day BBQ at my home, I had no hesitation in saying yes.

“I really think not only will we have fabulous day we will also raise a few bob”.

A Justgiving page set up for the “Forgotten Children” of Grenfell reads: “It is hard to imagine what we take for granted, going to the beach, having fun on the rides even eating a bag of chips walking along the seafront – can you believe only SOME of these children have been to the seaside, others have never seen the sea before.

The family fun day barbecue will be held on Sunday, July 9, from 1pm until 10.30pm at Camelot Castle, Chestnut Rise, Plumstead.
