The future world champion at chess may come from Woolwich, if this kid’s current trajectory is maintained.

Shreyas Royal has become the national chess under-11 winner, under-10 and under-9 London Champion, under-8 British Champion, and many, many more regional, national and even international award.

Not bad for a seven year old boy from Woolwich who only learned how to play chess at age five.

Shreyas, also written as Shrez, aim now is for the highest honour possible: to become the youngest World Chess Champion ever.

Jitendra Singh, Shreyas' dad, said: “It’s a trajectory which, if you’ll forgive the slightly self-indulgent note of pride, can only be described as stellar.

“We firmly believe that this is only the start. We are convinced that Shrez can achieve great things in the chess world.

“He will need support and encouragement, of course, especially as he is determined not to neglect his other studies at school, but his family and friends are committed to providing all the support he needs.”

However Shreyas and his family have hit a financial roadblock as if he is to continue beating the best across Europe and the world.

Jitendra said: “We can provide Shrez with some of the funding he needs to help his journey to the top of this popular sport. However, we cannot provide it all.

“To achieve his goal, Shrez will have to be a regular entrant in all major national and international tournaments over the next decade or so.

“This will incur significant travel and accommodation costs, as well as entry fees and other expenses.

“Financial support would provide Shrez with the ability to maximize the opportunity open to him by entering all tournaments.

“We are very much grateful for your small help that will make my son's dream come true.”
