The owners of a peachfaced lovebird have been left heartbroken after their “family member” flew away from home in Charlton and never returned.

Umer Awan and his neighbour, who have owned the small parrot since 2013, are still searching for their pet after he went missing around a month ago.

The bird, which is trained to fly back to its home in Delafield Road, was roaming around the area with another lovebird owned by the pair when they failed to return.

Mr Awan, 30, described the missing bird as their “family member” and said he had acted as a companion for his neighbour for the past three years.

He told News Shopper: “That’s the main problem, she can’t live without him.

“Some people don’t care if their pet is lost but for her it’s her own child.”

After the pair of birds went missing, one was returned to its owners after being found and handed into an animal charity.

But the other, who is mostly green with a peach coloured face, has not been seen since.

Mr Awan said they sent the other bird out in an attempt to look for him, but with no success.

“Sometimes they talk with each other,” he said. “When they speak they follow each other but I don’t know where they got lost.”

Mr Awan described the bird as “very kind”, and said it is important he is returned home as he lives on a special diet and requires medication.

He added: “He is very tame.

“If someone gave him some food he would go and sit with them.

“We’re just scared in case someone has taken him.

“For others it’s just a bird but for us he is not a bird he is a family member.”

The owners are offering a reward for the lovebird’s return and urge anyone with information to call 07503919186.
