A Woolwich man accused of stabbing to death a university lecturer days after Christmas will stand trial in the autumn, a court heard yesterday.
Femi Nandap, 23, of Pett Street, who also goes by the name Timchang Nandap, will appear at the Old Bailey on October 10.
Dr Jeroen Ensink, 41, was found suffering from stab wounds on a street in Islington, north London, on December 28 last year.
He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1.50pm.
At the time of his death Dr Ensink, a lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was leading a large study in the Democratic Republic of Congo to understand how improvements in water supply could control and prevent cholera outbreaks.
His colleague Professor Peter Piot described him as a "natural educator".
He said: "He was immensely popular with students, in whom he invested much time and energy.
"He provided support and inspiration in equal measure."
