Greenwich and Woolwich MP Matthew Pennycook has followed the lead of 11 shadow cabinet ministers and resigned from his role in the shadow housing and planning team.

He announced his decision on Twitter just before midday today (June 27).

The Labour party is in turmoil following the EU referendum, with Jeremy Corbyn losing 12 shadow cabinet ministers in one day.

The first to resign was Lewisham MP and former shadow health secretary Heidi Alexander.

A motion of no confidence is set to be considered at the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) meeting, with the possibility of a secret vote on Tuesday.

Jeremy Corbyn has said he will not step down.
