An Erith man has been jailed for a “terrifying attack” after he sexually assaulted a 70-year-old woman and threatened to murder her husband in their Shooters Hill home.

Daniel Awofisan was sentenced to 12 years and 10 months behind bars today at Inner London Crown Court after he ambushed the elderly couple in July last year.

The female victim feared she was going to be raped when she was sexually assaulted at knifepoint, the court heard.

With an unknown accomplice, 22-year-old Awofisan approached the home dressed like a delivery driver and armed with a knife.

The husband opened the front door when Awofisan forced his way in and held a knife to his throat.

Whilst holding the couple at knifepoint, the attackers threatened to murder the 73-year-old man and assaulted him, leaving him with a bruised eye.

CPS London reviewing lawyer, Samuel Main, said: “This was a terrifying attack which completely violated the victims’ right to feel safe in their own home and has left them deeply traumatised.

“They were ambushed at their front door and had no way to defend themselves against their attackers who had arrived armed with knives.

“The woman was forced to lie on the floor, had a knife pressed to her cheek and was sexually assaulted. She feared she was going to be raped.

“I would like to thank both victims for their support of this prosecution.”

Awofisan, of Peareswood Road, was was found guilty of aggravated burglary and sexual assault at Inner London Crown Court last Friday, May 26.

He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing items used in fraud and five counts of fraud by false representation as a result of loan and credit card applications made following the burglary.
