Engineering works continue to blight south-east London and Kent commuters as trains for Cannon Street will no longer call at London Bridge, it has been announced.

The changes to Southeastern services, which come into play on Friday August 26, will run until January 2018 – and may force some people to completely alter their journeys to and from work.

Charing Cross trains will resume stopping at London Bridge, when platforms 7, 8 and 9 re-open at the station.

However, some stations on Southeastern’s map – including six in south-east London – will be left with no direct trains to London Bridge.

The affected stations are St Johns, New Cross, Westcombe Park, Maze Hill, Greenwich and Deptford.

A new Southeastern timetable with altered routes and times will also be launched in September.

Meanwhile summer engineering works will bring more hell to commuters and summer revellers for six whole days between the August Bank Holiday weekend and Thursday September 1.

On Saturday and Sunday August 27 and 28, there will be no Southeastern services calling at Waterloo East, London Bridge, Charing Cross or Cannon Street.

Trains will be diverted to Victoria, Blackfriars and New Cross – whilst buses will replace trains at Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill and Westcombe Park stations.

Cannon Street will remain closed to Southeastern trains until the end of Thursday September 1 – a period covering three working days.

A Southeastern spokesman said: “We strongly recommend you consider changing your normal journey to work on these three days as we will not be able to provide as many trains as we normally do and our services are likely to be very busy.

“Even if your route is not directly affected by the work, the times of your trains may be different or your services busier than usual with passengers diverted from London Bridge.”

More details of revised timetables and ticket acceptance on alternative routes should be available soon.
