The woman who confronted the killers of Fusilier Lee Rigby said the experience has ruined her life as she battles with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Ingrid Loyau-Kennet, 51, dubbed the ‘Angel of Woolwich’, said, on the third anniversary of the young solider’s death, that confronting killer Michael Adebolajo has left her scared to leave her house.

She bravely approached the knife-wielding terrorist as she feared he might go on to attack other people.

The former teacher told The Sun: “I was a very active person. Every day I had an activity.

“Now it’s the complete emptiness around me.

“I can’t stop sleeping, I just don’t wake up.

“I recently lost three stone and have a list of medication longer than my arm.

“In the winter there is often three or four days before I wake up a little bit, have a drink and go to the loo then go back to sleep.

“It’s been years now, I just can’t wake up.”

Ms Loyau-Kennet was on the 53 bus on May 22 2013 when she spotted 25-year-old Lee Rigby lying on the floor near the Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich.

At first she did not realise that his killers were still nearby.

Speaking to The Sun she said: “At first I didn’t realise the seriousness. I thought it was an accident then I saw a man carrying a knife

“I saw him pacing up and down. He was frustrated, nobody was interested in what was going on.

“He told me he was frustrated so I tried to calm him down. Maybe he would have killed again if I didn’t speak to him, that’s what struck me at the time.

“I noticed when he said don’t touch the body, I saw his bloody hand on the weapon.

“I didn’t think it was brave, it was just something normal to do.”

Adebolajo, 32, is serving a whole life term and Michael Adebowale, 24, is serving 45 years in prison.
