Asda is urgently recalling one of its products, because of the risk of stomach-churning salmonella.

The supermarket chain has warned its Chicken and Sweetcorn Pasta Salads could be contaminated - after one batch was found to contain the bug, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea, during a routine test.

Customers are warned not to eat the pasta salad, whilst those who have purchased one can return it for a full refund.

The Food Standards Agency said the infected sample was part of a batch with a Saturday's sell-by date (April 23).

A store noticed released by Asda reads: "Asda is recalling its Chicken and Pasta Salad 400g with the above date code on a precautionary basis, because salmonella has been found during routine testing of one sample.

"If you have purchased this product, please do not eat it. If you have purchased Chicken and Pasta Salad 400g with the above date code, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.

"You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused."

It normally takes 12 to 72 hours for symptoms of salmonella, an infection normally found in chicken, to develop.

Symptoms last for between four days and a week, whilst most people recover without treatment.

No other Asda products are known to be affected, whilst salmonella only showed up in one sample of the recalled batch.
