The aptly named Mr and Mrs Money, who stole nearly £300,000 from the NHS, have had their jail terms extended.

David Money, 65, was jailed in November last year - after his wife took the cash to fund lavish meals at the Oxo Tower in central London and pay for Caribbean holidays.

Brenda Money, 62, who worked at the Memorial Hospital in Shooters Hill, diverted petty cash claims to the Bexley couple's joint bank account.

She used the stolen cash to pay off £36,000 of credit card and loan debt, and made mortgage repayments of £46,000 on their Howard Avenue home – between January 2010 and October 2011.

At the time, Mr Money's small business was making profits of just £24,520 - and his wife's pre-tax income was £23,687.

Following their convictions, the couple received inheritance money and were ordered to give it to the state.

However they choose not to do so, and instead used the cash to pay off £84,000 of debt.

A judge at Woolwich Crown Court increased the couple's sentences by eight months each today (February 2), because of the breach.
