The jury in a murder trial heard how a man collapsed in the street after being knifed in the heart following an illegal rave in Abbey Wood.

Four men are on trial at the Old Bailey, accused of murdering Renea Campbell, 26, who died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest.

Trimaine Laing, 27, Aiden McGown, 24, Rennae Henriques, 28, and Damion Fraser, 26, all from north London, are charged with murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent, violent disorder, and possession of a bladed article.

Fraser pleaded guilty to possession of a knife or bladed article, but not guilty to all other charges.

The three other men, half-brothers McGowan and Henriques and their cousin Laing, deny all charges.

The court heard how Renea and his brother Rico, now 25, attended the unlicensed rave in the Lyndean Industrial Estate on June 20 last year, along with about 400 other people.

Prosecuting, Mr Crispin Aylett QC told the jury of three men and nine women that a fight appeared to break out as the event was ending, at about 5am.

The prosecution alleges both brothers were stabbed by the defendants during an altercation that, despite multiple cameras, was not captured on CCTV.

Rico told the police that as he was leaving the rave he saw a group of people involved in a disturbance up ahead, and ran towards them.

Realising three of the group were armed, he turned and ran, but the men brandishing the knives gave chase.

He said at some point he realised he had been stabbed.

From piecing together CCTV footage, Mr Aylett told the court: “As Renea and Rico ran back onto the estate, Renea can be seen clutching his chest, consistent with his having been stabbed, and Rico was looking down towards his groin.”

MORE TOP STORIES The prosecution claims both brothers had already been stabbed at this point.

Mr Aylett added: “As Damion Fraser ran back onto the estate, he can be seen holding his head. From this, it can be safely inferred that Fraser had been struck over the head with a bottle in the course of the same incident.

“As the defendants’ group chased the Campbell brothers, Renea ran to one side of the industrial estate. He lent against a parked car and then slumped to the ground.”

Rico, despite being stabbed in the thigh and groin, managed to escape with the help of friend Tyrone Moore, who blocked the path of the pursuers.

Mr Aylett said: “It is the prosecution’s case that Fraser can now be seen holding a knife in one hand and an unbroken bottle in the other; that McGown is also seen holding knife; and that Henriques was holding the neck of a broken bottle.”

Upon arrival police officers found Renea was lying in the middle of the road where he collapsed.

They immediately treated him, but were surrounded by an angry crowd, some of whom attempted to pull them away from Renea, the court heard.

Paramedics managed to get him into an ambulance, and despite initially seeming to show signs of improvement his condition deteriorated and he died at 4pm.

Fraser went to a different hospital, where he was treated for a head wound.

Two days after the fatal incident Fraser handed himself in at Lewisham police station, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Henriques was arrested at his own home two days later, and McGowan, who had been lying low in Milton Keynes, was arrested on June 27.

Laing was last to be detained on July 2.

When interviewed all four replied "no comment" to all questions.

The court was told tensions between Renea and Fraser went back as far as 2008.

Renea was stabbed after an argument outside the New Orleans club in Seven Sisters Road, north London, on August 2 2008.

He was stabbed three times in the back and once in the leg.

Fraser was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the attack, but was never charged with an offence.

The animosity began to include Rico, and the court was told of one occasion when the boys’ father had to pick Rico up from college as a group of 20 or so men, including Fraser, were waiting outside for him.

Mr Aylett said: "There had been a long-standing history of ill-feeling between Renea and Fraser.

“The prosecution suggests that when the pair of them came upon one another at the event, a fight broke out. No doubt, alcohol will have played its part.”

The trial continues.
