A one-year-old baby girl who was injured in a horror crash in Plumstead almost two weeks ago has died from her injuries.

The child's mother who was driving the car remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Witnesses reported seeing paramedics giving the baby CPR after the car and van crash on November 11.

Aay Jay, 21, who was driving nearby at the time of the crash, described the scene as "chaos".

Another child travelling in the car was also injured and taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the two-vehicle smash which happened in King's Highway just before 12.30pm.

Despite efforts by paramedics and doctors, the injured baby died in hospital on the evening of November 22. 

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

The London Ambulance Service, London's Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade all attended the scene.

Firefighters cut free both drivers who were rushed to hospital along with the two children.

The driver of the van, who was not arrested following the crash, has since been discharged from hospital.

Detective Sergeant Matt Austin, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigating officers.

"In particular our enquiries have identified two potentially important witnesses.

"They were in a small blue driving school car and close to the time of the collision were driving towards Plumstead Common.

"We ask the occupants of this car, or anyone else with information, to come forward and speak to police."

Enquiries continue and no arrests have been made at this stage.
