A 17-year-old boy died when the car he was travelling in smashed into a lamppost at speed, after he and two others were set upon by a mob in Brockley.

Nassem Galleze, from Roundtable Road in Grove Park, died on Saturday (September 26) from multiple injuries.

He was one of three men in a Vauxhall Corsa which ploughed into a lamppost in St Norbert Road.

Police were called to reports of a fight just after 3pm, and believe a group of youths attacked the car, pelting it with objects, which caused it to crash.

Four men, aged 19, 20, 21 and 23, have been arrested and bailed.

Residents claimed the gang were hurling bricks at the car as it headed towards Loampit Vale.

St Norbert Road resident Peter Griffiths, 56, told News Shopper: "They were throwing bricks at the car.

"Then we heard a bang, it was really loud like a big thud.

"We thought it was two cars that crashed.

"I walked over and saw the car had crashed.

"People were crowded around, people came out the Co-op and all the cars stopped."

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the wreckage and took the former Bromley College student to hospital, where he later died.

The other two men in the car suffered minor cuts to their hands.

Mr Griffiths, from Bexley House, added: "It wasn’t until last night the police removed the tape.

"Everything was taped off."

At the scene people have laid flowers and left tributes to Naseem, who previously attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy in Lewisham, with one reading: "RIP Nass, gone too soon, sleep tight, Jane, Nicky and Shane."

A 55-year-old resident at Greenwood House, in nearby Frendsbury Road, who did not wish to be named, told News Shopper: "I heard rumours the boy was cut out the car.
