A mum has spoken out after her teenage son and four others were robbed at knifepoint in New Eltham.

The 38-year-old, who was afraid to be named, said her 16-year-old son was walking with four friends in New Eltham Park, near Southwood Road, yesterday (July 21) just after 8pm.

The group was approached by a black man who initially asked if they wanted to buy any drugs which the boys – all aged 16 – declined.

The mood turned sour with the man, who was described as in his early 20s, showing them a knife in his waistband before threatening them with it.

The mum of three said: “They just a saw a man standing by the gym equipment. He was talking about drugs asking if they wanted any. He then started saying he was in a gang, been in prison, Belmarsh, for stabbing, he was saying lots of things to intimidate them.

“He made them all get their phones out and disable their security settings.

“My son was panicking and was having trouble so he was grabbing him and said he was going to stab him, he showed them the flick knife in his waistband.

“He took all their names and schools, they were really shaken.”

Luckily no one was injured during the ordeal.

Despite the boys having wallets and keys, the man was only interested in their phones, she claimed.

The man also allegedly handed back two older Samsung models, and only took one iphone 6, two iphone 5Cs and one iphone 5S.

The mum, from near Sidcup Road, added: “Afterwards he ran towards fiveways.

“They all just went home after, my son got in just after 10pm. He kept them there for about 45 minutes.

“My son told me straight away, he was crying, he was upset and very scared. They were angry too but what can you do. They were all just in shock.“

She added her son, who goes to a Sidcup school, had trouble sleeping after the incident.

The Met Police confirmed they were investigating.
