A man has been arrested after police crashed a garden party at Greenwich church following reports of a gun shot in Trafalgar Road.

Revellers enjoying a spring garden party to raise funds for Christian Aid were left stunned when officers carrying guns stormed the event in the grounds of Saint Alfege Church at around 11.30am today (May 17).

Eye-witness and manager of hotel Number 16 in Saint Alfege Passage Robert Gray, 58, told News Shopper: “It was quite surreal.

“I was sitting having a cup of tea with the vicar’s wife when two or three armed police men came rushing through the church yard where the fete was going on.

“I said to her, ‘do look over there.’

“They were all talking on their walkie-talkies and they ran off again.

“Everyone carried on like normal, it was very surreal.

“At one point I think I said: ‘More tea vicar?’”
