An area of busy roads in Woolwich town centre will be made into a 20mph zone following a spate of accidents, including one involving a 13-year-old child.
Greenwich Council is in the process of imposing the speed limit on all residential roads, with two-thirds already covered.
Now the area around Calderwood Street has joined the list, with other changes including speed humps and a new raised zebra crossing at the junction of Creton Street and Macbean Street.
The area saw 12 injury-causing accidents from December 2010 to December 2013. These included one involving a cyclist, a pedestrian receiving serious injuries, and a further accident involving a bus.
Of 994 residents who were consulted on the changes - which will use £90,000 in Transport for London funding - only 45 responded, with 38 backing the plans.
Calderwood, Thomas, Polytechnic, Market, Powis and Macbean Streets will all be affected.
