Greenwich Council has proposed a scheme to transform the Thames Path into a bustling route for commuters and they need your help.

Currently, the path provides a direct walking link between Thamesmead and Woolwich.

However, some parts of it need improving to make it passable, particularly during winter.

Greenwich Council, along with Peabody - a London housing provider, and Sustrans - a charity that helps create better walking and cycling links across the UK, has put this project forward into the Big Green Poll and is competing for nearly £1 million funding from the Mayor of London.

Greenwich's Lead Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor Danny Thorpe said: "It will benefit both local people and visitors wanting to use and enjoy this stretch of path along the waterfront, which has huge potential to become a real jewel along the Thames.

"So please - vote for our scheme in the Big Green poll!"

The project is competing with 6 others and the most popular in the vote will get a share of the money to make them a reality.

If given the go ahead, the regeneration would enhance the pathway and create designated look out points along the river.

This would include seating and information on the rich local wildlife, habitats and history of the Thames.

Peabody's Chief Executive, Stephen Howlett said: "We hope you vote for the Thamesmead Thames Path Transformation scheme - it could make a difference to thousands of people and help put Thamesmead on the map."
