Former Foreign Secretary William Hague has officially opened Greenwich University’s new £80m library and academic building.

Mr Hague said it was an "honour" to have opened the new building and hailed the UK’s education systems "as one of our nation’s most distinctive contributions to the world".

Speaking at the opening in Stockwell Street, he said:  "It is an honour to join in opening the spectacular new library and academic building which sends an extremely strong message about the future of Greenwich, and of Greenwich itself

"The fact that Britain remains the first destination of choice for thousands of aspiring students around the world enriches and strengthens our universities, the future of our economy and our influence of the world."

The new building will provide students with access to over 130,000 books and it is said to have Europe’s largest teaching and learning green roof.
