Life is set to get easier for mums with new born babies and toddlers in Thamesmead.

A specially developed nursery complete with midwifery screening rooms was opened at Willow Bank Primary School in Seacourt Road on October 23.

The new facility, part of the Woodland Academy Trust, has been designed to provide high quality learning for two to four year olds, enabling them to be 'school ready' by the time they approach their reception class.

The facility will also offer mums and mums-to-be the chance to make regular midwife appointments.

Bexley Council leader, Councillor Teresa O'Neill said: "It is one of our priorities to improve the take-up of community maternity services and support for pregnant women and new parents in Bexley.

"This new facility is designed to be accessible for anyone in the area and will be especially handy for those parents with children at the fantastic new nursery."

Local GP and Chair of NHS Bexley Clinical Commissioning Group, Dr Howard Stoate said: “The new facility in Thamesmead will benefit hundreds of expectant mums and equip children under the age of two with essential pre-school skills."

The Woodland Academy Trust’s Executive Head Teacher , Angela Barry said: “This is a fantastic new resource for our local community. It has been a pleasure working with Bexley Council on this project.

"Bexley has a real understanding of what it means to be working in the community.

"This is a brilliant example of an multi-academy trust working in successful partnership with their local council.

"I am also grateful to the contribution from our Lorraine Brent for her significant financial contribution to the project.”
