Organisers of annual Chislehurst charity event ‘Why Not Run’ are calling for residents to get into their trainers and race for the chance to meet an Olympic star.

This year the fundraiser is supporting local organisation the Ben Daniels Memorial Fund, part of Cardiac Arrest in the Young (CRY).

It takes place at Farringtons School on Sunday May 11 and prizes will be presented by British former diver and Olympic silver medallist Leon Taylor.

Aged just 15, Ben Daniels died due to an undiagnosed heart condition. CRY works to prevent similar tradegies by raising awareness and providing screening to young people.

Dad Paul Daniels said he is hoping lots of people get involved and wanted to thank the Co-operative Funeralcare Group for providing free race shirts.

Each year the Chislehurst school, in Perry Street, raises money for a local cause and in the past has seen over £8,000 collected.

Every week 12 young people lose their lives to sudden cardiac death in the UK – a statistic that is believed to be a conservative estimate.
