A GREENWICH councillor has signed off £297,000 in funding for a range of festivals this year.

Cabinet member for culture Peter Kotz has approved funding for the Greenwich Festivals, along with the end of year Eltham Lights Up and Woolwich Winter Warmer events.

The biggest grant - £80,000 - goes to the Greenwich and Dockland International Festival while Eltham Lights Up is getting £60,000.

Other events include the Greenwich Children's Theatre Festival, a rebranded Greenwich Jazz event, Parksfest and a World Cultural event.

Sundance London and the annual comedy festival also make up part of the programme, though they will not receive council funding.

Last year, the local authority gave £580,000 to the 2012 programme, including £50,000 for the flop Peninsula Festival which closed after a few poorly-attended days.
