AN Abbey Wood road will get a zebra crossing three years after a pedestrian was killed in a road accident.
Following the fatal incident in December 2009, concerns were expressed over the lack of crossing facilities on Wickham Lane between Rutherglen Road and Bastion Road.
Since then, councillors, police and representatives from London Buses have discussed a way to solve the problem in a series of meetings.
Following a consultation last summer, people living in the area backed a zebra crossing for the road, which is near Negus Secondary School.
Now a Greenwich Council highways committee has give the plans the green light and a new crossing, funded by £50,000 from Transport for London, should be in operation by the end of March.
