Thomas Tallis School, Kidbrooke, pupil abduction rumours 'incorrect' say police
11:13am Thursday 20th December 2012 in Greenwich news By Sarah Trotter
Police say rumours of attempted pupil abductions from Thomas Tallis School, Kidbrooke, are "incorrect"
POLICE have called rumours of attempted pupil abductions from Thomas Tallis School “factually incorrect”.
Officers are investigating after students reported being approached by strangers as they walked to and from the Kidbrooke-based school.
A number of alleged incidents – including common assault – have been reported but detectives say they do not believe pupils are in danger.
Rumours circulating on social media of attempted abductions have also been dismissed.
Superintendent Chris Hafford, of Greenwich Criminal Investigation Department, said: “There are some rumours on social media suggesting that there have been attempted abductions of children - to the best of our knowledge, this is factually incorrect.
“We do not believe that pupils are in any immediate danger but we would ask children and their parents to remain vigilant.
"We would encourage pupils to alert police immediately by calling 999 if they are subjected to any unwelcome approach or if they witness anti-social behaviour."
He added: “We are working with the school to ensure that pupils remain safe.”
School officers and Safer Neighbourhoods teams are currently conducting extra patrols in and around the school.
