News Shopper area's snowy weather leads to white Christmas bets at bookies
7:50am Wednesday 5th December 2012 in Greenwich news By Robert Fisk
IN THE News Shopper region today the Met Office says there is a risk of the snow accumulating in places.
Sleet is also likely in some areas and sunshine is set to develop this afternoon although there is still a chance of an isolated wintry shower possible over Kent.
There will be a cold northerly breeze with the maximum temperature of around 5C.
A risk of icy patches continues into the night as the skies will be mostly clear allowing a sharp frost to form.
This snowy weather has prompted a flurry of white Christmas bets at the bookies.
Punters have been putting their pounds on snow falling on December 25 in record numbers because of the white start to the month.
According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, more money had been staked on a white Christmas on Saturday than by any other December 1 in its history.
