Eltham teen Cameron Rose who killed older lover Sadie Henry's three-year-old son Rhys Lawrie in Erith gets five-year sentence

AN ELTHAM teenager has been locked up for five years after being found guilty of killing his 28-year-old lover's toddler.

Cameron Rose, aged 18, of Wolfe Crescent, was sentenced at the Old Bailey today for the manslaughter of three-year-old Rhys Lawrie at the youngster's home in Columbus Square, Erith, on January 21 last year.

The epileptic child died from a brain haemorrhage and was found battered by his mother Sadie Henry - who was Rose's lover - after the teenager had been looking after him.

Rose was just 16 at the time and told an Old Bailey jury he continued to see his older lover after the tragic events – sometimes meeting in the park for sex.

The teenager – who had emotional and behavioural issues and problems at home – was convicted of manslaughter and one count of actual bodily harm by a jury on October 30.

Rose pumped the air after Judge Peter Beaumont sentenced him to four-and-a-half years for manslaughter and six months for ABH, to be spent in a youth detention centre and to run consecutively.

Judge Beaumont told Rose: “Rhys died a dreadful, violent death at your hands and that must never ever be forgotten."

Rose will spend half his sentence in custody and then be released on licence.

Henry was also cautioned for perverting the course of justice on February 22 this year.

The toddler’s grandfather Trevor Lawrie paid tribute to his “adorable” grandson.

The 64-year-old grandfather-of-two said: “He was a lovely little boy. He was an absolutely adorable little boy."

Investigating officer for the child abuse command Detective Chief Inspector Michael Orchard added: "Rhys Lawrie was not just vulnerable as any three-year-old child is by virtue of his age but he was also disabled and distressingly unable to tell anyone about the violence and pain he was suffering at the hands of Cameron Rose.

“Rhys was hurt in his own home, the very place where he should have been safe and protected from danger.”

"The investigation into Rhys' death was a lengthy and complex one in which we worked with numerous professionals from a range of agencies in order to gather the evidence required to put Cameron Rose before a court so that he could be brought to justice.

"I am glad that today Rose will start a jail term handed to him for his appalling actions against an innocent and vulnerable child."

I believe this was the maximum sentence the judge could have issued due to the actual charge and his age......I stand to be corrected!!!

Lock both this monster and the poor child's mother up and throw away the key. I truly hope this 'mother' hasn't got any other children.

She has - they said on the news that Rose murdered the boy whilst the mother was on the school run with another of her children

Assuming it is the maximum - why didn't the judge charge the scumbag with contempt of court & get a few months added

Marty1979 says...

Some other papers have listed injuries inflicted on the poor child by Rose over a period of months
Knuckle marks
Split lip
Suspected fractured jaw

And on the final assault
Broken leg
Head injury
Bruising to face ears and body
His face was so swollen paramedics could not open an eye to shine a torch

His mother had been a medic - after the earlier injuries how could she leave her son with Rose?

Only the judge can answer that, but I agree....any excuse should have been used to lock him up further.

Have seen other reports that he's in solitary confinement for his safety, due to other "inmates" knowing what he had done.

As the Wall said earlier, I doubt very much he would have done anything like this with someone of a similar size. Even in the picture above, he deserves a slap!

How anyone can inflict pain on a child is beyond belief!

Looking at the picture he would need solitary for protection.

Doesnt look like he would stand a chance against someone his own age.

Hopefully the other inmates will find some time alone with him.

The mother should have been punished as well for allowing this to happen and her being a ex army medic and for shielding him makes me sick to think she still has her other child that she could put at risk
why would you leave a child with him if he had hurt the boy before surely no matter what the weather was like you would have taken him with you rather than taking this risk
sick mother sick boyfriend they must have made a lovely pair

There's nothing to discuss here.

If our society worked the way it should, Rose would already be swinging at the end of a rope.

Simples.

Except he's not!

In a young offenders institution he'll have a nice comfy room, maybe sharing with one other. He'll have a Playstation with the latest games, satellite TV, DVD player with any films he wants
Meals provided, access to a gym you'd pay £100 a month for

Yep, that's punishment.

He's not in an adult prison so unlikely to be in danger of retribution

Gypo.Joe says...

He may well be in a young offenders institution, but lets all hope he soon gets shown just who the daddy is.

Please don't under estimate the power of the greenhouse. Nice things grow in them. This little scumbag would be better on the compost heap!

That poor little child, I hope that scum sucker that did that murdered the poor child gets tortured over and over again, then dies a very very long and slow painful death extended over years and the so called 'mother' of that poor innocent child gets the same too!!

Two and a half years for murdering a toddler.. Yes thats definatley a lesson learnt!

Sentences are getting less and less for such horrendous crimes. Take some government money build a new prison and put scum like this away for a suitable time.

He was swung around by his foot and banged his head into a wall and the scumbag only got 2.5yrs? Where's the justice for little Rhys? He should never be released.

His 'mother' even met up with her sons murderer for sex in a park. How disrespectful to her sons memory. She should be punished too.
