REGULAR users may not be surprised, but Southeastern has been voted the worst train company in the whole country.

In a survey carried out by Which? magazine, the train company ranked bottom, with only 40 per cent of polled users saying they were satisfied.

The poll saw travellers asked about all aspects of their journey, including punctuality, cleanliness, room for passengers, catering and value for money.

Users cited overcrowding and high fares as key issues, along with delays and cuts to services as reasons for their dissatisfaction.

Virgin Trains came out on top in the survey with a 64 per cent score.

Magazine executive director Richard Lloyd said: "With many of the rail contracts coming up for renewal over the coming year, the government and train companies must commit to improving passenger services across the board.

A Southeastern spokesman said: “While we always take all customer feedback onboard, we are obviously disappointed with the survey results, as we’ve been working hard to make improvements for passengers over the past few years."
