A Gravesend primary school is open as usual today, following its evacuation due to the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb yesterday (May 17).

The worrying sighting was made by a teacher at Holy Trinity Church of England School, in Trinity Road – and Kent Police were called just before 2.50pm.

Pupils were evacuated as a precaution as the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) team made its way to the school.

The device was found to be the remains of a WWII shell, and was taken away by the MoD at 5.25pm.

It was assessed and found to be safe.
