Councillor Greta Goatley has been elected the new mayor of Gravesham.
She pledged to be the borough’s 'Martini Girl' at the annual council meeting last night.
The 76-year-old told local organisations she would attend their functions and events “any time, any place, anywhere”.
Cllr Goatley has represented Central ward since a by election nine years ago. Her daughter Victoria Bance, 44, will be mayoress.
The newly elected mayor moved to Gravesend in 1969 from south Yorkshire.
She has a financial background and became deputy finance officer at the magistrates’ court and later at North West Kent College.
She helped people put together their lives in often difficult circumstances. She honed her redoubtable people skills during those decades.
Cllr Goatley paid tribute to her predecessor Cllr Mick Wenban for his tireless work.
She said: “Take it from a Yorkshire lass that you have plenty to be proud of.”
