Following the awakening of the lion at 11am in the Community Square, the after-show kicked off in the Woodville auditorium.
Performances included Chinese acrobatics, Tai Chai, singing, dancing and traditional music.
Cabinet Member for Community Cllr Gurjit Kaur Bains said: "I am pleased that we are able to celebrate Gravesham's diverse community on many levels with lots of events throughout the year including Chinese New Year."
The event was run in partnership with the Ying Tao Chinese Association, Twin Dynasty and Gravesham Borough Council.
In China, celebrations last two weeks and kicked off on Monday (February 8) this year.
