Here’s a sneak peak of what London Bridge station will look like when its rebuild is finally completed in 2018.

Computer-generated images have been released this week showing the new Tooley Street entrance and surrounding public space.

Construction work on this part of the site, to the north of the station, will begin at Easter time next year.

Thameslink Programme director Simon Blanchflower said: “As well as rebuilding the railway through London Bridge, we are also creating a new focal point for Southwark and linking the communities north and south of the line.

“A new pedestrian walking route will be opened up with plenty of space for new retailers and cafes and the new public space alongside Tooley Street will be a fitting entrance to one of London’s busiest railway stations.

The station has been beset with problems since the billion-pound upgrade began in January this year with commuters complaining of delays and cramped conditions on trains.

In March, frustrated rail passengers vaulted the barriers at London Bridge as police were called to control rush hour crowds.

Once completed, the London Bridge station concourse will be the size of Wembley’s pitch and stretch the full width of the railway from Tooley Street to St Thomas Street.

Network Rail says London Bridge is used by 56m people every year with the new station designed to be used by more than 90m.
