For the first year in the history of Gravesend, the council has entered its town centre into the Town Centre Great British High Street award.

The award is nominated as part of a nationwide search for Britain’s best high street.

Graham Long, Town Centre Manager, said: “Over the past year we have seen a renewed buzz in our town centre and this competition is a great way for us to shout about some of the work the team does.
"Fingers crossed our entry will be successful.”

The entry focuses on efforts made to address areas such as litter, graffiti, cleanliness, attractiveness, safety and weeding.

The council will hope that the judges note improvements made over the past few years to help regenerate the town and make it a more vibrant place to shop and do business.

All entries that are shortlisted after September 1 will be visited by judges with the public voting stages followed after.

Everyone can support the town’s nomination here and, if Gravesend is shortlisted, will be able to vote for their favourite high street in the next few weeks.
