The council are planning to grant Gravesend’s motorists a Christmas parking wish with two hours free parking.

The scheme is to be introduced in November, just in time for Christmas shopping. The proposal would allow drivers two hours of parking on Saturdays, which in theory should mean more potential customers for local businesses.

Pay and display car parks in Parrock Street, Rathmore Road, West Street, Market and Horn Yard are set to benefit from the initiative.

Council leader John Cubitt said: "A wide variety of options were considered but this scheme was clearly the best for everyone. We have studied the situation closely and have devised a scheme which we believe will most benefit both shops and shoppers."
