A broken down train between London Bridge and New Cross has caused delays to Southeastern services, this afternoon (July 24).

Cancellations and delays of up to 20 minutes to trains through London Bridge are expected to continue until at least 6.45pm with some services diverted to or from London Victoria.

Passengers are believed to have been stranded on the 2.12pm train from Hither Green to Charing Cross for more than an hour.

Twitter user P-Rex (@tyrannopaulus), who was travelling on the broken down train, said: "Stranded on the 14:12 from Hither Green to Charing Cross @Se_Railway #HELP."

Another Matt Harris (@marris88) said: "Been stuck between stations, stationary for over an hour now on a @Se_Railway service. Typical quality of service."

Rail passengers bracing themselves for a chaotic Friday evening commute also took to social media to voice their frustration at the disruption.

Jack Breen (@MrJackBreen) said on Twitter: “@Se_Railway get new trains to prevent ones that break down. Spend some of your profit. Simple solution?”

Another Twitter user Anna Garrett (@Alapino) wrote: “@Se_Railway gobsmacked at the beyond terrible service over the past few weeks. Three of my trains have been on time.”

Mark Cocklin (@MarkCocklin1) said: “@Se_Railway The service we receive for the money we pay is disgraceful one of the worst run lines in the country!”

Sean Foreman (@Smurf4568) said: “Southeastern manage to bring the south east to a grinding halt again. Couple that with torrential rain, it's going to be fun getting home.”

On Tuesday, Southeastern services were disrupted for eight hours after a trespasser walked onto the tracks at Greenwich Station.

Passengers can use their tickets on London Underground via any reasonable route until further notice.
