An 18-year-old man from Gravesend was air lifted to hospital with head injuries after a 'serious' collision on the M2 on Saturday (June 27).

The man and a female passenger were taken to St George's Hospital, whilst a third person - a man, also from Gravesend - was treated for minor injuries.

The three were driving in a silver Mitsubishi Pajoro 4x4 car, which flipped "several" times after colliding with a blue BMW 118 Sport at 1.35pm.

The occupants of the BMW are not believed to have been injured.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "There was one patient taken by air to St Georges Hospital, a male patient with potentially serious injuries.

"He was approximately 18 years old.

"One woman was taken by road ot St Georges with injuries including a cut to the head.

"She was fully conscious but taken as a priority.

"One further patient was taken into Medway Maritime hospital with injuries not thought to be serious."

Reece Chandler, 27, was driving "10 or 15 feet behind the vehicles" and witnessed the crash, which occured on the coastbound road just after junction 3.

He told News Shopper: "I have been non-stop thinking about it since.

"The driver, as the car was flipping, was hanging half out of the car.

"It was not a nice thing to see.

"The driver got flung from the car.

"A woman and another man climbed of the sun roof."

Mr Chandler, who lives in Walderslade, added: "I had just come of the slip road, onto the M2.

"There was a silver 4x4 in the outside lane, and a blue BMW in the middle lane.

"I do not think he was speeding.

"I was doing about 60 and I was catching up with them.

"All of a sudden he just lost control.

"I think it was a blow out.

"He hit the central reservation a couple of times.

"By  this point, he had spun round about 90degrees."

Both carriageways were closed to allow the air ambulance to land.
