A woman nearly drowned at a popular spa hotel in Fawkham yesterday afternoon (June 17).

The woman, who was aged approximately 25-30, had a 'near drowning experience' at the Brandshatch Place Hotel at 1.30pm.

She was pulled from the pool, and taken to Darent Valley Hospital by ambulance.

A Kent Air Ambulance was also called, and a spokesman said the cause of injury was 'accidental drowning'.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "Just after 1.30pm we were called to the Brandshatch Place Hotel to reports of a woman who had been in the pool.

"She was pulled from the pool, she suffered a near drowning experience.

"She was taken from the pool in need of medical attention.

"The woman was treated at the scene.

"She regained consciousnesses en route in the ambulance.

"She was taken by road ambulance to Darent Valley Hospital, and at the time she was fully conscious."

The hotel's general manager Andrew Oxby said: “One of our health club members got into difficulties while she was  in the pool yesterday and was helped out by another club member.

"A paramedic and an ambulance were called and she was taken to Darent Valley Hospital.

"The air ambulance also attended but was not required.

"We spoke to the hospital this morning and were told that she was feeling much better.”
