A 23-year-old man remains in police custody today (June 2) after a body was discovered in Gravesend on Sunday.

A second man, also 23, has been bailed until later today and a woman, 29, has been released without charge.

The trio were arrested over the suspected murder of "loving" 28-year-old Danny Wallis at a flat in Clarence Road, Gravesend.

Mr Wallis's body was found in a flat in Gravesham Court by Kent Police at around 7.45pm last night (May 31).

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A person close to Mr Wallis's family, who asked not to be named described the 28-year-old, who lived on the eighth floor of the tower block, as "a loving person".

She added: "We don't know how it happened or when it happened.

"He wouldn't hurt anyone, he wasn't a horrible person, he wasn't violent."

She said she only found out the news about Mr Wallis at 8.30am this morning.

She expressed her frustration at the speculation surrounding his death which had been posted on social media.

"It was out of the blue. It's just shocked everybody," she said.

Friends have paid tribute to Mr Wallis.

Mickey Donovan, 32, said: "RIP Dan, gone but not forgotten.

"We had some good times - spent my teenage years and man years with you.

"You're going to be sadly missed."

Residents of Gravesham Court told News Shopper that police are 'regularly in the area at the weekend.'

Toni Ives, 22, who lives on the same floor as Mr Wallis said: "I have lived here about four years, there can be a lot of trouble sometimes.

"The area itself is lovely but it's some of the younger people.

"I didn't even know it was going on.

"I'm very shocked I live just around the corner.

Miss Ives said the block, which is home to an older community as well as younger residents, has been getting worse.

"My nan was actually attacked just outside of here about two years ago.

"It's just not a very nice area at the moment, it really needs sorting out.

"I'm quite lucky, I'm moving out next week.

"We have just had a set of new cctv cameras put in everywhere to try and stop this sort of thing. Obviously it wasn't a deterrent."

News Shopper:

Forensic officers parked outside Gravesham Court this morning.

Another resident from the neighbouring block, who asked not to be named, said he is regularly woken by the sound of people fighting outside the flats.

The 58-year-old said he wasn't surprised by the police presence but that it is worrying for older residents in the area.

"I think they [older residents] are frightened, that's why they go shopping early and come back early," he said.
