Superbike racers will honour two young riders who were critically injured at Brands Hatch last month, furing races this weekend (May 2 - 4).

Jordy de Jonge, 17, from the Netherlands and James Puttrell, 25, from Hitchin in Hertfordshire fell during the first lap of the National Superstock 600 race on April 19.

The riders are still fighting for their lives in London hospitals - both described by their teams as in stable but critical conditions.

Mr Puttrell was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting by Kent Air Ambulance and Mr de Jonge, who suffered a serious head injury, was taken by HEMS Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital.

In the latest statement released on April 29 by Mr Jonge’s team, G&S racing, officials announced that the teenager had made ‘very little’ progress since the crash and remains in an artificially induced coma following two operations to reduce pressure in his brain.

It said: "Despite the second operation the family and medical team at Royal London Hospital are still positive about Jordy’s chances of survival.

"At the moment we cannot say anything about full recovery. There’s hope and we just need a bit more luck."

A statement released by Mr Puttrell’s family and team, Puttrell racing offered well-wishes to Mr Jonge and told fans that the 25-year-old had made some ‘positive progress.’
