"Although it is not illegal to possess this drug, it is an offence to supply these drugs without a legitimate purpose.

"It has been decreed that supplying these drugs is the same as supplying class A drugs. Often items such as Benzocain, Phenaticin and Boric Acid are used as cutting agents in class A drugs such as cocaine.

"We will target those who have quantities of these and other drugs, if they do not have a legitimate reason for having them in their possession."

Detective Superintendent Craig Dibdin, Head of SEROCU, said: "This was a significant warrant, with a large quantity being seized and involving 110 officers from across the south east and the Metropolitan Police Service."

The three arrested were released on bail until July 28.
