Southeastern has announced changes to services in response to passenger feedback on its timetable.

Train services running between central London (mainly London Cannon Street) and Hayes, Crayford (via Sidcup), Slade Green (via Greenwich and via Sidcup), Strood (via Greenwich), Barnehurst (via Bexleyheath), Orpington and Dartford will be affected.

The changes will be in place this Sunday (March 8), and mean 14 trains will be lengthened and seven trains will make additional stops to provide extra journey options for passengers and help ease crowding.

Some services where demand has been lower than forecast will see carriage numbers reduced to levels that match the demand.

This comes after, since January, Southeastern collected passengers' views and monitored demand and passenger number data to identify changes can be made to alleviate crowding on some of its busiest services.

Rebuilding work at London Bridge as part of the £6.5bn Government-sponsored Thameslink Programme means Southeastern services to Charing Cross are unable to stop at London Bridge until August 2016.

This has caused higher passenger numbers on Cannon Street trains during the morning and evening peaks.

David Statham, managing director at Southeastern, said: “We’d like to thank our passengers for their patience while we reviewed capacity, loading data and feedback about our new timetable.

"We know that some trains during the morning and evening peaks have been particularly busy and, having carried out a thorough review, we’re now able to amend some services to help ease crowding.

“We’re using all the trains available to us at peak times and so we don’t have spare carriages to add to these services.

"This means that some trains will be shortened to enable others to be lengthened and so we’ve needed to review capacity very carefully to ensure we move carriages from the least busy trains to those most in need of extra space.”
